About Mara

Welcome to my website!

I moved to Walla Walla in 2014 with the goal of starting my own business in personal training with a focus on corrective exercise, rehabilitation, and performance.

I grew up a sports and adrenaline junkie who loved movement but suffered from chronic injuries and pain. I moved to Colorado to continue a life of running, bouldering, working horses, and skiing. While there I achieved a B.S. and B.A. but was plagued with what the therapists in the area considered to be a life altering injury that seemed to have no answer. I was healthy, in shape, but barely able to move or function and used a walker to get around if I was able to leave the house.

Finally, with the help of an incredible physical therapist, I was able to get strong, get rid of my walker, and get back to enjoying my life. I was hooked on the power of a good provider and the importance of movement and getting strong. After thirteen physical therapists I had found one that made the difference. It changed my life.

I quickly looked into how to transition my knowledge of body mechanics and animals into the human industry. After a few years working in physical therapy clinics and managing commercial gyms I decided it was time to have a more one-on-one approach. It worked. I have been lucky enough to have an incredible career helping all types of people through chronic disease, pain, weight loss, muscle gain, rehabilitation, and finding general joy in movement. I know that your relationship with your provider is the most important indication of whether or not you will be successful with your goals. I am here to help.

I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA and hold my personal training certification (CPT) as well as a performance enhancement specialization (PES) and corrective exercise specialization (CES) through the NASM.  I stay up to date in new research and methodologies and love to be at the forefront of this industry. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful place and to have the opportunity to move our bodies.

Mara's Body Shop is our private little haven that my husband and I built. We are here to help my clients find success, safety, and fun in their movement and day to day lives. We currently have thirteen chickens, two horses, one goat, one dog, and three goldfish on the property. I hope you enjoy our facility as much as we do.
